Microneedling

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. It is a pricking of the skin with tiny sterilized needles to create small wounds in the skin. The body reacts by starting the healing process and produces collagen and elastin, which makes the skin look younger and smoother. Sometimes this is referred to as collagen induction therapy.

Microneedling Treatment

What are the benefits of Microneedling?

Microneedling can help with many cosmetic issues. It can even help with hair loss, known as alopecia. It works very well at reducing dark spots that are caused by hyperpigmentation. It is a good treatment for acne and reduces the size of pores on the face. It can be used to reduce scars, sun damage, stretch marks, fine lines, and wrinkles and increases the elasticity of the skin, giving it a more glowing and youthful look.

Microneedling can also be less expensive than treatments like laser therapy. Microneedling can work better for people who have darker skin tones since it does not use heat as laser treatments do. Talk with your cosmetic specialist to find out how this can work for you.

How soon will I see results from Microneedling?

The process of microneedling creates micro-wounds in the skin with tiny needles. The body responds to these tiny wounds immediately. One of the first responses is to increase blood flow to the treated area. This makes the skin look fresher immediately after the treatment. You will continue to see improvement in your skin as elastin and collagen are produced and sent to the areas that have been treated.

Most people will see full results in about four to six weeks. The time it takes will depend on the body’s ability to heal. You should see your skin looking younger and healthier. Multiple treatments can give you better results that last longer. Results will vary depending on what you are treating, scars can take multiple treatments to get noticeable results.

What can I expect from a Microneedling procedure?

Typically a device that has micro-needles in it will be used on the targeted area. This can control the speed and depth of the needles to meet your needs. The needles are also customizable and can be set to your skin type. The needles not only start the body’s healing process, they can also be used in conjunction with skin care products. The process allows the skin care products like hyaluronic acid or other serums to be more easily absorbed, which makes them more effective.

A topical anesthetic is normally applied to the area being treated to make the procedure mostly painless. Once the anesthetic has worn off, you may feel the effects of the treatment for up to two hours.

What should I expect after the Microneedling treatment?

The main reason that this treatment is so popular has to do with the fact that there is very little downtime after the procedure. It is suggested that you stay out of the sun for a few days after the treatment. Apply sunscreen when you go out to protect your skin and prevent damage from UV rays.

While your skin is healing from the micro-wounds you will want to stay away from swimming pools and other bodies of water that can have bacteria in them that cause infection. Infections will be easily acquired while you are healing. It is a good idea to stay away from using soaps and lotions that can irritate your skin.

This is one of the easiest cosmetic treatments you can have. It’s almost painless with little recovery time. It uses your body’s natural healing properties to rejuvenate your skin. It is much less expensive than many of the other facelift and laser treatments and works on all skin tones. This can be a gentle way to introduce yourself to cosmetic treatments.
